The Course

The Equip program is intended for Christians who wish to access Bible College education without the pressures of a full academic program. The program provides a flexible and less demanding program of biblical studies that promotes a greater understanding of the Christian faith, growth in Christian maturity, and more effectiveness in lay ministry.

Course Requirements

The course requires the completion of a designated number of units in order to graduate from the program.

Completion of a unit will require:

  • Attendance at lectures or Crossway College sponsored workshops
  • Written reflection work of around 1,000 words

Students may choose to study any unit offered at Crossway College in its diploma and degree programs during a semester. There is no set program and generally no prerequisites.

The program may be undertaken in two stages:

  • Christian Studies Award (6 units)
  • Advanced Christian Studies Award (12 units)

UNITS AVAILABLE

The following are the units typically offered by the college. Other subjects, intensives, seminars and workshops may also be offered from time to time.

Biblical Studies

  • Old Testament Introductions
    An introduction to the entire Old Testament, setting it in its historical and cultural background, examining its contents and major teachings
  • New Testament Introductions
    An introduction to the entire New Testament, setting it in its historical and cultural background, examining its contents and major teachings
  • Old and New Testament Exegesis
    A detailed look at certain books of the Bible to discover the original meaning as well as the relevance for Christian life and ministry today. Areas covered over a two year cycle generally include: The Pentateuch; Psalms; Samuel; Isaiah; Daniel; Ezekiel; The Gospels; Corinthians; Romans
  • Introduction to New Testament Greek
    An introduction to Biblical Greek as an aid to understanding the Bible through the use of grammatical and exegetical aids.

Church History

  • Church History to 1550
    A survey of the major people, events, thoughts and movements involved in the development of the Christian church from its origin to the Continental Reformation
  • Church History from 1550 to Modern Times
    A survey of the major people, events, thoughts and movements involved in the development of the Christian church from the English Reformation to modern times

Theology

  • The Doctrine of God and the Person and Work of Christ
    The Holy Spirit, Grace and Hope
    These subjects provide an introductory overview of the major doctrine of the Christian faith
  • The Knowledge of God
    A study of the sources of our knowledge of God; the authority, inspiration and reliability of the Bible; Creation; humanity; sin and evil
  • The Doctrine of God and the Work of Christ
    This study includes Christian doctrine of God (including His being and attributes and the Trinity) and the person and work of Jesus Christ
  • Doctrines of Grace and Eschatology
    A study of the doctrines of Grace (including Salvation and the work of the Spirit) and of Christian hope (the Christian vision of the end of all things)
  • Church Sacraments and Ministry
    A study of the people of God (the basis of ministry and mission) and the means of grace (prayer & the sacraments)

How to Enrol

Full and part time students may enrol for the Christian Studies award by completing an application form available from the office. An interview with a member of the faculty is also required
