The Advanced Diploma of Theology course aims to provide a foundation of biblical knowledge and ministry skills in order to prepare men and women for informed participation in the life of the church. It provides a foundation for lay Christian ministry. The elective units offered reflect an emphasis on preparing people for lay ministry in the church and cross-cultural mission. This course has a greater emphasis on Bible and theology as compared to the Advanced Diploma of Ministry.
Mission organisations generally recognise this course as adequate training in biblical studies for many aspects of missionary service. Those preparing for cross-cultural ministry may, with permission, choose as electives, missions subjects offered at degree level if they are not available at diploma level.
Each student must be qualified for admission to a degree course in an Australian or New Zealand University with a minimum OP score of 12. Students who do not have matriculation and who have attained the age of 21 years and are approved by the College may be provisionally accepted as mature age students. Except for those students who have a tertiary qualification taught in English, international students whose first language is not English, must achieve an average score of 6.5, with no score under 6.00 in an IELTS test. Overseas students on a student visa must study full-time.
The course requires a completion of 48 credit points (12 units). This is equivalent to one year and a half (3 semesters) full-time or a maximum of four and a half years part-time study.
Students choose from a variety of Biblical and practical subjects covering such areas as:
This study plan is for full-time students commencing their studies in semester 1. Full-time students commencing in semester 2 would complete the units in semester 2 first. It is recommended for part-time students to complete the core units OT, NT and CH/TH first, as they are prerequisites for the advanced units (e.g. OT/NT exegesis).
